Two ships at the transhipment point: on the left the 'Marcel', on the right the 'Paloma'. The crane lifts a piece of metal from the belly of the 'Paloma', to drag it onto the truck. Later it is the 'Marcel'’s turn to be unloaded from the heavy cargo. Photo: Richter
The second loading at the Weser transhipment point went like
clockwork. Richter is happy with the conditions
From Helmut Krischmann
HANN-MÜNDEN. "It’s going well." Crane operator, Eugen Sdzuj, is
happy with the loading process. Yesterday, he and his colleague
Gerd Mett lifted three metal pieces weighing tons with super cranes
from Breuer und Wasel company from onboard two ships and dragged
one from a truck onto the ship. The pieces are for a forging press
in the USA.
They were machined by Richter Maschinenfabrik AG, a company from
Hess-Lichtenau. The first loading occurred on the 25th of July –
the renaissance of the Mündener Weser transhipment point as a
harbour – the medium-sized company held a small party to celebrate
(as reported by HNA). Richter had renewed the transhipment point
for Euro 250,000.
Both motorised freight vessels, "Paloma" and "Marcel", had each
one part of the forging press on board. The one weighing 219 tonnes
is the top; the other weighing 210 tonnes is the foundation. The
ships did load the goods in Rotterdam. The "Paloma" will leave
Hann-Münden reloaded – with the 166 tonnes weighing metal piece,
which was brought on the 25th of June. This is the press’ middle
section.
Milled and drilled
Richter’ staff had milled and drilled the section in the
factory, so that it can be returned to the customer. The "Paloma"
will carry it to the port of Bremen from where it will ship to the
USA.
From the Weserstein and from above the Weser transhipment point
at the B 80, viewers were watching the event. Some got their
cameras out to capture the second loading on film. Even the Chief
Executive, Axel Richter, had his video camera running.
Unlike the first loading, the trucks were not on the B 80 above
but below at the transhipment point. Reason: To lift the cast-iron
colossuses up to the B 80 again, two 900 tonne cranes would have
been necessary. Richter: "We couldn’t get such heavy cranes". With
the smaller versions – one can lift up to 400 tonnes, the other up
to 500 tonnes – it worked out smoothly. The chief executive is very
happy with the current conditions of the transhipment. Now a
driveway has been paved, trucks can drive on it, turn around in
Gimte to go from the transhipment point up the hill to the B 80 and
drive further on to Hess-Lichtenau. Richter has planned two more
loading up before the 15th of September, when the lock in Hameln
will be repaired. Then there will be a break.
